Since ancient time Arabian men rode majestically on their donkeys,
while the Arabian women, with all sorts of burdens, walked patiently behind them.
After World War II, however, the situation was changed:
Arabian wives were emancipated.
They still carry the burdens, but now they walk in front.

Explained an Arab, "There remain many unexploded land mines..."

태고로 아랍남성들은 의젓하게 당나귀를 타고 다녔고 그가 거느린 여자들은
온갖 무거운 짐을 지고 참을성있게 그 뒤를 터벅터벅 걸어야 했다.
그런데 2차대전 이후로는 사정이 달라졌다.
아랍의 여자들이 해방된 것이다.
짐을 운반하는 것은 여전히 그들의 일이지만 지금은 당나귀를 뒤로 하고 앞장서서 걷는다.
그 까닭을 한 아랍사람은 이렇게 설명했다.

"아직도 터지지 않은 채 묻혀있는 지뢰들이 많거든요..."
